Connecticut Open Educational Resources
Grant Program

A program sponsored by the CT Open Educational Resources Coordinating Council to support higher education institutions' efforts to increase access, affordability, and achievement for students through Open Educational Resources (OER). From 2020 to 2024, the program saved 10,000 students $1.2 million, an ROI of 5.23 on state funding. The state has eliminated this funding, and the grant program is currently suspended.

OER Defined

Open Educational Resources (OER) are freely available and openly licensed online teaching and learning materials that can be used, shared, and adapted. As a no-cost alternative to traditional textbooks, OER save students money and fosters their success.

Impact

From 2020 to 2024, the CT OER Coordinating Council awarded 121 grants to 161 faculty working at 28 CT institutions. The state's cumulative investment of $230,000 for the grant program saved CT students $1.2 million. Learn more from our Legislative Reports

Grant Cycle

The application period for the 2024 CT OER Grant Program closed on April 12, 2024. Due to the elimination of state funding, additional grants are not available.

OER Repository

OER works adopted or created through the CT OER Grant Program are housed within the statewide OER repository, GoOpen CT. This repository not only contains works from the state funded projects but also includes works from Connecticut K-12 districts and higher education institutions.
